The Choshen was actually more like a pouch, about 22 cm square, made of beautifully
woven material on the face of which were attached with gold thread, 12 precious
gems in four rows of three. It was used by the High Priest as an oracle to
prophetically answer questions about the past, present and future. As such,
it was like a spiritual electric wall socket that could be used to draw Power
from Above.
The Book of Exodus records for us G-d’s command to
make special clothes for the High Priests of the Holy Temple, all of whom were
direct descendants of Aaron the first High Priest and Moses’ brother.
Each of the eight articles of clothing had their own special Holy significance.
The number eight itself in Kabala represents spiritual power above the Laws
of Nature. The High Priest’s garments imbued him with spiritual abilities
not bound by natural law. The most obvious example of this was the Breastplate,
the Choshen Mishpat. It was actually more like a pouch, about 22 cm square,
made of beautifully woven material on the face of which were attached with
gold thread, 12 precious gems in four rows of three. Each stone had engraved
upon it the name of one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The Choshen itself
was connected above to the Ephod, a kind of apron with straps coming over
the shoulders. In the shoulder pads of the Ephod were found two stone with
the twelve names engraved on them together, six on the right and six on the
left. When the Choshen was connected to the Ephod, the High Priest was able
to use the stones prophetically as an oracle to answer questions about the
past, present and future.
The implication is clear. Each stone of the Choshen represents
each individual Jew who shines uniquely from his/her place in G-d’s woven
pattern. But the individual without the whole is like a tree without roots
and it can’t fulfill its purpose. A united Jewish People is like a
powerful spiritual engine. The Choshen, as an expression of that united power,
had prophetic powers. Through it The Jewish People connected to HaShem like
an electric plug into a wall socket. Click Here To View Our Colcetion of High Priest’s Breastplate .
